HORNETS SWEEP NCCU TO IMPROVE TO 4-0

Cary, NC --- The Delaware State softball team completed a weekend sweep through the Tar Heel State with 8-0 and 8-3 victories over North Carolina Central on Sunday. The Hornets opened the 2008 season with a doubleheader sweep of Winston-Salem State on Saturday. In Sunday's opener, Megan Lambertz and Andrea Waters combined on a one-hit shutout. Lambertz improved to 2-0 on the season after allowing just one hit and striking out two in four shutout innings. She was also 3-for-4 with two RBI at the plate. Waters struck out two in one inning of relief. Delaware State scored first on a run scoring single by Allison Rubin in the opening frame. The Hornets opened up a 3-0 lead when Lambertz tripled in two in the top of the third. Sha Tabor hit a solo homer in the fourth to give DSU a 4-0 lead. Nicole Demers hit a solo homer and Waters added a two-run shot in the fifth for the Hornets. In the nightcap, Lambertz was 3-for-5 with three RBI to lead a 13-hit DSU attack. Rubin was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Delaware State opened the scoring when Demers doubled in a first inning run. The Hornets added four in the third to open up a 5-1 lead. The big blow in the inning was a two-run homer by Lambertz. Delaware State scored two in the seventh inning on run scoring doubles and Lambertz and JoJo Shields. The Hornets return to action next weekend at UNC-Wilmington's Seahawk Classic.
