Dover, DE ? The Delaware State Hornets never gave the Howard Bison a chance as they came out flying high opening the game with an impressive 37-3 run that set up an easy 81-55 win.
The Hornets shot a season high 78.6% (22-28) from the floor in the first half, and the biggest dagger was their 72.7% (8-11) from three point range. They were red hot from the floor and took a 52-19 lead into the locker room. “This was definitely one of, or not the best, first half performances in reference to how we shot the ball, I have seen since I have been here,” said DSU head coach Greg Jackson.
Howard scored their first basket on a lay-up by Eugene Myatt with 18:39 left in the first half and added a free throw by Myatt a minute later and didn't score again until 7:11 left in the half by Adam Walker with the Hornets in control 37-5.
DSU senior forward Roy Bright showed why he was picked as pre-season MEAC Player of the Year and why he is definitely in the running for that honor in post season, leading all scorers with 26 points finishing the game hitting 10 of 14 shots from the floor. Bright was six (6) of 10 from behind the three point line. Also in double figures for the Hornets was Donald Johnson who added 13 points.
The win improved the Hornets to 7-3 in the MEAC and 10-12 over-all, while the Bison fell to 5-19 and 2-8 in the MEAC.
The Bison finished with three in double figures led by Eugene Myatt who finished with 14. Jeron Smith and Adam Walker added 13 and 10 respectively.
