NEXT UP FOR DELAWARE STATE: MORGAN STATE

The Delaware State Hornets are coming off the team's most lopsided victory of the season, following a 42-7 romp of the North Carolina A&T Aggies. The Hornets set their sites on MEAC foe Morgan State as DSU travels to Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Hornets look to spoil the Bear's homecoming and make it four straight versus Morgan State. Having won its last two conference games, DSU is looking to move within one game of first place in the MEAC standings with a win on Saturday.

Quarterback Vashon Winton looks to improve to 4-0 as a starter versus the Bears and increase his career MEAC record to 23-4. Winton enters Saturday's game with 790 yards through the air on 79-of-141 passing and three touchdowns this season. The Chicago, Ill., native completed 10-of-17 passing for 110 yards during DSU's 42-7 win over N.C. A&T, moving the Delaware State signal caller into the No. 17 spot all-time on the MEAC career passing list (5,064). Winton became the 17th player in conference history to pass for over 5,000 yards. Winton also tallied his ninth rushing touchdown last Saturday, to lead the Hornets as well as the MEAC in rushing touchdowns this season.

Joining Winton in the backfield are running backs Chris Strother and Kareem Jones. Strother currently leads the team in rushing with 454 yards on 86 carries (5.3 yards-per-carry). The Miami, Fla., native registered his first touchdown of the season with a 19-yard run versus the Aggies last Saturday. Strother is averaging 75.7 yards-rushing-per-game and 93.0 all purpose yards-per-game. Jones scored his first two touchdowns of the season during last Saturday's game. The 5-foot-11 running back has recorded 61 yards on 16 carries this season (3.8 yards-per-carry).

Senior Eddie Brown leads the Hornets' receiving corps with 17 catches for 244 yards (14.4 yards-per-reception). Brown notched his second touchdown of the season on a 59-yard reception from Anthony Glaud during DSU's win over North Carolina A&T. The touchdown reception was the longest of Brown's DSU career. The Miami, Fla., native finished the game with four catches for 88 yards and one touchdown. Speedster Larrone Moore is second on the team in receptions with 16. The 6-foot junior has compiled 145 yards receiving during the Hornet's first six games (24.2 yards-per-game).

Defensively, Delaware State is led by linebacker Kevin Conner, who has tallied a team-high 48 tackles this season. The 5-foot-11 Conner has recorded two quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries this season. Defensive back Avery Grant is second on the squad with 35 total tackles (three and one-half for loss). Grant has also registered one sack and two pass breakups during the '08 season. Redshirt junior Josh Pope was the defensive star for the Hornets last Saturday, notching five tackles (two for loss), including one sack. The Philadelphia, Pa., native also forced and recovered a fumble versus the Aggies. Pope has recorded 22 tackles this season with three and one-half tackles for loss and two sacks. On the season, DSU has registered eight interceptions, including three from Brandon Hudson. Hudson recorded his second interception in as many games, with his third pick of the season versus North Carolina A&T.

Hudson also is the team's leading punt returner, returning nine punts for 85 yards this season. Wide receiver Zach Charles has found success returning kicks for the Hornets in 2008, averaging 22.5 yards-per-return (13 returns for 293 yards).

A Quick Look at Morgan State
Morgan State enters Saturday's game having won two-straight conference games, including a 31-30 double-overtime victory over Howard on Saturday, Oct. 18. A missed PAT proved to be the difference as the Bears improved to 4-3, 2-1 MEAC.

Morgan State is led by reigning MEAC co-Offensive Player of the Week Devan James. The 5-foot-10 running back ran for 219 yards on 36 carries and two touchdowns versus the Bison. James enters Saturday's game with the Hornets averaging 125.0 yards-rushing-per-game. The Pompano Beach, Fla., native has recorded 875 yards on 174 carries this season (5.0 yards-per-carry). Carlton Jackson comes into this week's game having completed 53.1 percent of his passes (51-of-96) for 682 yards and five touchdowns. Jackson's top target is wide receiver Robert Surratt, who has recorded 27 catches for 312 yards and two touchdowns in 2008.

Anchoring the No. 2-ranked defense in the nation is linebacker Troy Leftwich. The 6-foot-1 Leftwich has recorded 43 tackles (six and one-half for loss), including three and one-half sacks and two interceptions. As a defense, Morgan State is holding opposing offenses to 230.86 yards-per-game (148.71 yards-per-game passing).

Sharing the Wealth
During the Hornet's 42-7 win over North Carolina A&T, five different Delaware State players found the end zone. Jaashawn Jones, Chris Strother, Kareem Jones, Vashon Winton and Eddie Brown all scored touchdowns during the contest. It was the first time five-or-more Hornets scored at least one touchdown in a single game since DSU's 62-0 win over Concordia (W.Va.) on Nov. 4, 2006.

Firsts A Plenty
Not only did five different Hornets find the end zone during DSU's 42-7 win over North Carolina A&T but, three of those touchdowns were firsts of the season. Jaashawn Jones, Chris Strother and Kareem Jones each notched their first touchdowns of the 2008 season during that contest.

A Lopsided Contest
Delaware State registered its most lopsided victory in nearly two years with the team's 42-7 win over North Carolina A&T (Oct. 18). Prior to that victory, the Hornets shut out Concordia (W.Va.), 62-0, on Nov. 4, 2006. The Hornets not only tilted the scoreboard on Saturday, Oct. 18, they out-gained the Aggies 423-195 in total offense, 275-115 in passing yards and 148-80 in rushing. The 423 total yards of offense and the 275 yards passing were season highs for DSU.

Glaud Gets First Touchdown
During Delaware State's 42-7 win over the North Carolina A&T Aggies, redshirt sophomore Anthony Glaud recorded his first-career touchdown pass, connecting with wide receiver Eddie Brown for 59 yards. Glaud finished the contest with 165 yards on 8-of-9 passing.

Extra Points Add Up
Place kicker Riley Flickinger went a perfect 6-for-6 on extra point attempts versus the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Saturday, Oct. 18. The Gresham, Ore., native convereted all six extra points attempts to help DSU to a 42-7 victory. On the season, Flickinger is a perfect 16-of-16 on point after attempts.

Glaud Named MEAC Rookie of the Week
Quarterback Anthony Glaud has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week for the week ending Oct. 19.

Glaud completed 8-of-9 passing for 165 yards and one touchdown during Delaware State's 42-7 win over North Carolina A&T on Saturday. Glaud registered his first-career touchdown pass at DSU with a 59-yard completion to wide receiver Eddie Brown. Glaud was a key component in Delaware State's season high 275 yards through the air on 18-of-26 passing. The Sicklerville, N.J., native recorded 347 yards on 26-of-38 passing, including one touchdown and a passer rating of 143.28 in five contests this season.This is Glaud's first player of the week honor.

Winton in the MEAC Record Books
With Vashon Winton's 10-for-17 passing performance for 110 yards versus the North Carolina A&T Aggies, the Chicago, Ill., native has moved into the No. 17 spot on the MEAC's career passing leaders list. Winton has compiled 5,064 yards through the air on 464-of-819 passing during his four seasons with DSU. The 6-foot-2 quarterback is two yards shy of passing Morgan State's Darryl Jackson (?86-'89) for No. 16. He became just the 17th player in MEAC history to record at least 5,000 yards passing.
