Tallahassee, FL ? The Florida A&M Rattlers took advantage of a technical foul and held on for a 70-68 win over the Delaware State Hornets. The Hornets dropped to 4-2 in the MEAC and 7-11 over-all, while the Rattlers improved to 4-3 and 8-11.
The game was a nip-and-tuck battle going into the final four and half minutes of the contest and the Rattlers holding on to two point (52-50) lead, when DSU's Marcus Neal was called for a foul and a technical foul for shoving a FAMU player. The two point FAMU lead turned into a five point lead (55-50).
On that call, FAMU had three players to leave the bench and were ejected from the game, but surprisingly, the Rattlers were not charged with a technical. Jon Mason, Cassius Bell and Darryl Demps had to leave for the locker room.
The Rattlers built on that momentum and Lamar Twitty's free throws with 2:23 extended the lead to eight 59-51. The Hornets would not go away as they turned an eight point deficit (67-59) with 19 seconds left into a two point game with 1 second left, out scoring the Rattlers 9-3.
The Hornets had a season high four players in double figures led by Roy Bright with 18 points, Donald Johnson 14, while Joe Dickens and Trevor Welcher added 10 each.
The Rattlers also had four with double digits, led by Twitty with a game high 20 points and 11 rebounds. Joe Ballard finished with 13, Larry Jackson had 12 and Byron Taylor added 10.
The Hornets will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Baltimore, MD to take on the Eagles of Coppin State.
