LADY HORNETS GIVE DAVIS 300TH WIN

Winston-Salem, NC --- Delaware State head coach Ed Davis has joined the 300-win club as the Lady Hornets toppled Winston-Salem State 49-27 Monday evening. DSU won its third straight to improve to 6-9 on the season, while the Rams fell to 0-12. Davis, in his eighth season at Delaware State, is now 129-95 with the Lady Hornets. Prior to his stint at Delaware State, he was 171-54 in eight years at Bowie State. The 27 points by Winston-Salem tied for the fewest allowed by the Lady Hornets since a 125-11 win over Rutgers-Camden during the 1977-78 season. Delaware State also allowed 27 points to Coppin State in 1980 (103-27). Raquel Collier led the Lady Hornets with 12 points on six-for-nine shooting from the field. She also had a team-high four assists and collected three of DSU's 15 steals. Ashlee Burbage came off the bench to add nine points on three-of-four shooting from three-point territory. Katreem Palmer led all players with 10 rebounds. Winston-Salem State led 4-2 before the Lady Hornets took control. Sade Bowen capped off an 18-2 Delaware State run with a lay up to give the Lady Hornets a 20-6 lead with 7:47 left in the half. DSU led 28-10 at intermission. Winston-Salem State scored the first basket of the second half to pull to within 28-16, but could get no closer. Delaware State held its biggest lead, 46-19, on a free throw by Keyhana Wakefield with 4:08 left to play. The Lady Hornets pressured Winston-Salem into 10-of-40 shooting from the field, while forcing 27 Ram turnovers. Delaware State returns home to take on Norfolk State on Saturday. Tip off is 2:00 p.m.
