DOVER, DE --The Delaware State women's basketball team got a 24-point performance from the bench on the way to a 75-66 win over the North Carolina Central Eagles at home Saturday.
The Hornets (7-21, 4-9) had three players score in double figures, led by Ericka Huggins, who had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jermesha Frierson added 11 points and five assists and Amya Scott helped out with 10 points off the bench.
Delaware State grabbed 36 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to North Carolina Central's 29, led by Huggins' 11 boards.
Delaware State did a great job disrupting North Carolina Central shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Huggins' two rejections led the way individually for the Hornets.

How It Happened
Delaware State started off strong, putting together a 17-12 lead heading into the second quarter. Delaware State capitalized on six North Carolina Central turnovers in the period, turning them into eight points on the other end of the floor.
Delaware State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 6:31 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Aniyah Jones, to increase its lead to 27-19. The Eagles cut into that lead, but the Hornets still enjoyed a 32-27 advantage heading into halftime. Delaware State was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its 15 points.
Delaware State continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Nevaeh Reaves, to expand its lead further to 40-30 with 8:24 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Hornets added two points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 56-44 edge. Delaware State knocked down five three-pointers in the quarter to score 15 of its 24 total points.
Delaware State kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Scott's three, to grow the lead to 72-57 with 1:50 to go in the contest. The Eagles narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Hornets still cruised the rest of the way for the 75-66 win. Delaware State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring five of its 19 total points.
