Dover, DE --- The Hornets return to the field for the first time since capturing the 2007 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship last Saturday. Howard will provide the opposition for Saturday's regular season finale. The contest also marks the final regular season Alumni Stadium appearance for Delaware State's 16 seniors. Lost in the excitement of last week's championship is the fact that the Hornets have won seven straight to improve to 9-1 on the season. A victory over Howard today would set a school record for wins in a season. DSU is 7-0 in the MEAC, already a team record for conference wins in a season. The Hornets are ranked 10th in the latest SportsNetwork poll of Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) teams, and number one in the Sheridan Broadcast Network poll of HBCU schools. Howard enters the game on a two-game skid that's dropped its record to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the MEAC. The Bison are coming off a 37-26 loss to Bethune-Cookman last Saturday.
The Series
Howard is Delaware State's oldest rival. This will be the 64th meeting between the teams. It also marks the 23rd consecutive year that the Hornets and Bison are meeting in the regular season finale. The teams last met on November 18, 2006 at Howard University in Washington, DC. The Bison scored the last 13 points en route to a 20-17 victory. The loss denied Delaware State a share of the 2006 MEAC championship and a possible bid to the NCAA playoffs. The last time the teams played at Delaware State, the Hornets prevailed 23-7.
