NORFOLK, Va. — Delaware State women's tennis dropped its MEAC conference opener to Norfolk State on Sunday, falling 7-0.
The Hornets opened the match by splitting courts in doubles play. Junior Catherine Goldman and Sia Mahajan earned a strong 6-2 victory at No. 2 Doubles over Daroszewska and Sabadie. However, Norfolk State secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
In singles, Norfolk State carried its momentum, claiming all six matches in straight sets to seal the team victory. Senior Lucia Casas Blas competed well at the top of the line up, but fell 6-3, 6-3 to Yurkova at No. 1. Freshman Alba Benedito battled in the first set at No. 4 singles before falling 6-4, 6-1. At No. 5, Freshman Hannah Watkins came up short 6-2, 6-2, and Freshman Maite Bou Safont rounded out the lineup with a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 6.
Delaware State will look to bounce back in its next conference matchup as MEAC play continues.
