Collegeville, PA––The Delaware State Hornets women's track & field team delivered a strong showing at the Frank Colden Invitational on February 7, highlighted by multiple event wins and a new school record performance.
Rebecca Jansen led the way for the Hornets, capturing first place in the 3000m run with a time of 10:27.29, setting a new DSU school record in the event. Jansen's performance anchored an impressive distance showing for Delaware State.
The Hornets claimed additional victories with Leah Powell sprinting to first place in the 60m dash (7.70), Valerie Ashamu winning the high jump with a clearance of 1.65m, and Mariah Winfield taking the long jump title with a mark of 5.11m.
Delaware State also saw several podium finishes across the meet. Mileah Cotton earned second place in the mile run and later finished fourth in the 3000m. Winfield added a second-place finish in the 60m dash, while Kirja Hickman placed second in the shot put and fourth in the weight throw. Joy Taiwo finished second in the 60H, and Ashamu added a third-place finish in the 200m dash. Morgan Wallace placed fourth in the 200m, and Jordan Myers rounded out the top performances with a fifth-place finish in the long jump.
