Hornets Sweep Events at Gotham Cup Invitational

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Delaware State Hornets women's track & field delivered a dominant performance at the Gotham Cup Invitational, sweeping first-place finishes across multiple events at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

Leah Powell captured first place in the 60-meter dash, while Miriam Okwudibonye, Merasia Johnson, Kahlia Smith, and Marianah Lipkins earned a first-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay.

In the field, Valerie Ashamu secured first place in the high jump, and Sanaa Virgil claimed first place in both the long jump and triple jump. Virgil's triple jump performance also marked the second-best jump in school history, adding a historic highlight to the Hornets' day.

Delaware State turned in a statement performance as the indoor season continues.

Up Next: The Hornets will be in Virginia to compete in the Liberty Open Invitational on January 23rd.
