DOVER,DE --The Hornets battled the Dragons on Saturday, February 21, ultimately falling 5-2 in a tightly contested match. Drexel opened strong by claiming the doubles point, but Delaware State responded with impressive performances in singles play.
Freshmen Maite Bou Safont and Alba Benedito delivered dominant straight-set victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Bou Safont defeated B. Ibrahim 6-1, 6-3, while Benedito earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over O. Chowgule.
After Goldman and Mengue dropped hard-fought matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, the team result came down to the final courts. Senior Lucia Casas Blas competed in a dead-even battle at No. 2 singles, narrowly falling in a third-set tiebreak, 6-7, 7-6, 10-7. Sophomore Sia Mahajan also pushed her match to a deciding set at No. 3 singles before coming up just short, 6-3, 0-6, 9-7.
The Hornets will look to bounce back when they face Towson University on March 7, 2026.
