Coach Stan Waterman was named a Finalist for the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award

BOSTON, MA -- On March 6th, 2025, collegeinsider.com announced the finalist for the prestigious Skip Prosser Man of the Year award—an award presented annually to the Division 1 coach who wins with integrity on and off the court.

Skip Prosser exemplified the meaning of success as he led the Demon Deacons to the first No.1 national ranking in school history and earned ACC Coach of the Year honors in 2003. He averaged 21 wins per season, posted a 126-68 winning record in his six years at Deacon, and achieved a 291-146 record in his 14 seasons ( 6 years as head coach at Xavier and 1 year at Loyola (Md). Prosser passed away from a heart attack on July 26, 2007, leaving behind a legacy that notable coaches such as Stan Waterman have established at Delaware State University.

Coach Waterman has displayed what it means to be a mentor, a leader, and an advocate of change for the DSU Men's Basketball program, coaching the Hornets to the MEAC Championship last season. Since Stan's arrival, he promoted academic achievement and encouraged his players to compete to the best of their athletic abilities despite the obstacles. The pride that he carries for his players has been shown on and off the court as multiple have received accolades for their outstanding performances and broken records. Under Waterman's coaching, Robert Smith has earned MEAC Player of the Week and scored a career-high 34 pts against Morgan State, Kaseem Watson has been forced to reckon with scoring on all sides of the court; followed by a career-high of 30 pts. Lastly, Martaz Robinson has earned All-MEAC First and Third team, Pre-season All-MEAC First Team, 1500+ career pts and 600+ career rebounds.
