East Stroudsburg, PA – On Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, the Delaware State Hornets women's wrestling program opened their season at the fifth annual ESU Open at the Koehler Fieldhouse, earning strong third and fourth place finishes from Louise Juitt, Icart Galumette, and Chanelle Alburg.
The Hornets made their debut in East Stroudsburg, displaying their strength and talents against elite and tenacious programs like Pittsburgh, East Stroudsburg, Lehigh, and more, with pride. Coach Sloan couldn't be more proud of the courageous efforts from her student-athletes.
"...Through a series of 'firsts,' the ladies moved throughout the weekend with poise, great adaptability, and a rigorous adherence to the high expectations set before them. From our first travel day together, first weigh-in, first tournament warm-up, and of course our first live competition against other teams, the student-athletes were disciplined and performed in a way that paid good tribute to the hours of hard work we have put in so far this season. Their focus in the wrestling room and dedication to weight training and dietary plans really showed up. As their coach, I couldn't be more proud of how we wrestled with attentiveness, applied new techniques and concepts, and pushed through hard situations on the mat. The college wrestling community at large showed their excitement for our competition debut as coaches, officials, fans, and even opponents on other teams congratulated us for our successful program launch and first tournament showing. It was great to see the ladies showered with excitement and curiosity. It is clear that many eyes have been awaiting this team's debut and have been looking forward to seeing the team in action," said Coach Sloan.
Junior Icart Galumette and freshman Louise Juitt opened the tournament for the Hornets with poise and resilience, dominating their opponents with a plethora of pins. Galumette and Juitt placed third out of 32 student-athletes that competed in the tournament, followed by junior Chanelle Alburg's fourth-place finish. Alburg was a force to be reckoned with, earning quick pins with stellar technique.
