Delaware State Wrestlers Compete on National Stage at NCAA Women’s Championships

CAROLVILLE, IOWADelaware State women's wrestling continued building its national presence as Louise Juitt and Icart Galumette represented the Hornets at the NCAA Women's National Championships. Both wrestlers earned victories during the tournament, gaining valuable experience while competing against some of the top programs in the country.

For a young program still establishing itself at the national level, the performances from Juitt and Galumette showed the continued progress of Delaware State wrestling.

Galumette Opens with First-Round Victory

At 117 pounds, Icart Galumette started the tournament strong with an impressive opening-round win. The Delaware State wrestler secured a fall over William Jewell's Alexandra Waitsman who was seeded #4 in the bracket.  This win andvanced her to the quarterfinal round.

In the quarterfinals, Galumette faced Iowa's Brianna Gonzalez (#5 seed) in one of the toughest matchups of the bracket. Galumette battled throughout the match and held a 10–8 lead late going into the second period before Gonzalez used her experience to reverse the momentum and secure the fall at 5:03.

Galumette later continued her tournament run in the consolation bracket before eventually finishing the tournament with a 1–2 record. Her performance included one of the tournament's notable early upsets and demonstrated Galumette's ability to compete with nationally ranked opponents.

Juitt Earns Two Wins at 145 Pounds

Freshman Louise Juitt also had a strong showing at 145 pounds, earning two victories during the championship.

Juitt opened the tournament by pinning Eastern's Zoey Haines in just 1:16 to advance in the bracket. After dropping her championship-round match to Simon Fraser's Liv Wieber (#7 seed), Juitt responded in the consolation bracket with another fall, defeating Western New England's Sanyah Queen in 2:21.

Her run ended in the next round. Juitt finished the tournament with a 2–2 record, both victories coming by fall.

Valuable Experience for a Growing Program

Competing at the NCAA Women's National Championships provides valuable experience for Delaware State's wrestlers as the program continues to grow. Facing opponents from established wrestling programs such as Iowa, Simon Fraser, and Wartburg allows the Hornets to measure their progress against some of the nation's best competitors.

With Juitt returning as a young wrestler and Galumette demonstrating her ability to challenge top opponents, the Hornets continue to build momentum as Delaware State women's wrestling develops its presence on the national stage.
