Delaware State University's Women's Tennis Team traveled to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA to compete in the 2025 Division I ITA Atlantic Regional Championships last weekend on October 16-19, 2025. It was a great opportunity to represent Delaware State and test our skills against the best schools in the region.
Senior
Lucia Casas Blas, Sophomore
Sia Mahajan, and Freshman
Audrey Yvana Mengue all were selected for the Qualifying Draw, where Senior
Lucia Casas Blas defeated Ashley Kennedy from Georgetown (6-1, 6-3). Sophomore
Sia Mahajan lost a close three-set battle to Liberty University's Celina Joseph (6-3, 6-7(8), 6-3), saving three match points along the way. Freshman
Audrey Yvana Mengue lost a close match to the No. 2 Seed from University of Maryland, Magdalena Bank (7-5, 6-2).
Senior
Catherine Goldman qualified for the Main Draw of the tournament, eventually falling to University of Maryland's Emma Ghirardato in a three-set battle (6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3).
All four Hornets' doubles teams qualified for the Main Draw of doubles, with Freshmen
Alba Benedito and
Maite Bou Safont advancing to the second round, defeating George Mason's Maitree Rout and Noelle Talarek (8-4). They rattled off seven straight games to get the win after going down 1-4.
This was the last competition for the Fall, so the Hornets will continue to train throughout the offseason and will look to start the Spring season with a bang.
