Delaware State Falls 7-6 to South Carolina State Despite Late Lead in Game 1, Falls 3-0 in Game 2

GAME 1 | South Carolina State 7, Delaware State 6

DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets brought a 6-5 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hold on and fell 7-6 to the South Carolina State Bulldogs Saturday.

Senior M. Mclntosh (0-0) started and took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (10-22, ).

The Hornets were trailing 4-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Delaware State managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Hornets kept the deficit at 4-2 before tying the score in the fourth. Delaware State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by sophomore Emma Crowe's single, which brought the score level at 4-4.

South Carolina State busted up the tie and took a 5-4 lead heading into the sixth, when Delaware State grabbed the advantage at 6-5. The Hornets were unable to hold the lead, as South Carolina State scored two times over the remaining one inning to grab the 7-6 win. South Carolina State was led offensively by freshman DeAsia Lowth, who went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Freshman Aaliyah Will led the Bulldogs pitching staff, throwing 3.1 innings of two-run ball.

GAME 2 | South Carolina State 3, Delaware State 0

DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets were not able to score a run against South Carolina State pitcher freshman DeAsia Lowth on Saturday and were shut out 3-0 by the Bulldogs.

Senior McKenzie Yurcaba (0-0) got the ball to start for Delaware State (10-23, ) and took the loss. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.

Offensively, the Hornets were paced by sophomore Chandler Martin, who went 1-for-2 on the day.

Delaware State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Hornets went 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the fifth, when senior Sydney Glisson made it into scoring position with two outs. South Carolina State was led offensively by Lowth, who went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Lowth led the Bulldogs pitching staff, throwing seven scoreless innings.

The Hornets will return to action Sunday, April 14 on Senior Day when they host South Carolina State in game three. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
