WASHINGTON, DC --The Delaware State women's basketball team kept Howard to just 10 percent from 3-point range in a 2-for-20 shooting performance, but fell 61-43 to the Bison on the road Monday.
The Hornets (8-18, 4-9) had two players score in double figures, led by Ja-Naiah Perkins-Jackson, who had 12 points. Savannah Brooks added 11 points and two steals and Deyonce Thompson added six points, nine rebounds and four steals.
Delaware State out-rebounded Howard 43-42 in Monday's game, paced by McKenzie Stewart's 12 boards. The Hornets also grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and scored five second chance points.
Delaware State's defense held Howard to only 10 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 34.3 percent from the field.
How It Happened
Delaware State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Howard kept adding to that lead, building a 25-15 advantage before Delaware State went on an 8-0 run to narrow its deficit to 25-23, a score that would hold until halftime.
Delaware State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Hornets faced a 42-34 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Delaware State knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 11 total points.
Delaware State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 61-43. Delaware State took advantage of five Howard turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways. The Hornets held the Bison to only 34.3 percent shooting from the field. The Delaware State bench made an impact by adding 21 points to its scoring output. The Delaware State defense forced 16 turnovers.
