NORFOLK, Va. -- Senior Mclntosh dominated on Saturday, fanning nine Norfolk State hitters over six innings of work, but it was not enough as the Delaware State Hornets fell to the Spartanettes 2-1.
In addition to her nine strikeouts, Mclntosh (4-7) threw six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits and walking three for Delaware State (10-16, ).
In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by senior Uxua Modrego Lopez, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI.
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the third inning. Lope put Delaware State on the board with a two-out solo home run off freshman Kailey Bryant. The Hornets were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame. Norfolk State was led offensively by freshman Maddy Morris, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Freshman Emma Zieg led the Spartanettes pitching staff, throwing 3.1 shutout innings.
