Mclntosh's 8-Strikeout Showing Leads Delaware State Past Norfolk State in Game Two, Hornets Take Game One 4-3

NORFOLK, Va. --Senior Mclntosh was dominant on Friday, punching out eight Norfolk State hitters over seven innings of work to help propel the Delaware State Hornets past the Spartanettes 6-2.

In addition to her eight strikeouts, Mclntosh (5-3) tossed seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits and walking two for Delaware State (10-15, ).

Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the second inning.

The Hornets then held the Spartanettes scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. Delaware State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Hasan, which brought the score to 4-1 in favor of the Hornets.

Delaware State held Norfolk State scoreless before building their lead to 6-1 in the sixth inning. Norfolk State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Delaware State still coasted to the 6-2 win. Norfolk State was led offensively by junior Rylie Gilbreath, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and an RBI. Freshman Kailey Bryant led the Spartanettes pitching staff, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings.

NORFOLK, Va. -- Delaware State held the Norfolk State Spartanettes to three runs on Friday, and the Hornets lineup did the rest, pushing just enough runners across to eke out the 4-3 victory.

Senior Yurcaba (2-6) started in the circle and picked up the win for Delaware State (9-15, ). The right-hander went 6.1 innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on nine hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

Offensively, the Hornets were led by senior Ramberg, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Lester furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Hasan also helped out for Delaware State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

The Hornets got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Delaware State plated two runs off of Norfolk State pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Lester.

The Hornets then held the Spartanettes scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Delaware State scored twice on Ramberg's two-run homer, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Hornets. Norfolk State put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Delaware State still held on for the 4-3 win. Norfolk State was led offensively by freshman Julia Kearny, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Freshman Emma Zieg led the Spartanettes pitching staff, throwing three shutout innings.

The Hornets will return to action Saturday, March 30 when they face Norfolk State in game three. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
