DOVER, DE --The Delaware State Hornets broke through after a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning to take down the Siena Saints 11-6 Tuesday.
Freshman Kristin White (0-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Delaware State (8-15). The right-hander went two innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.
Trailing 2-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Delaware State scored twice, with one run coming across on sophomore Laila Hasan's single.
The Saints broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when the Hornets got back on the scoreboard. The Delaware State offense exploded for nine runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of sophomore Chandler Martin and a two-run single from senior Uxua Modrego, which brought the score to 11-4 in favor of the Hornets. Siena put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Delaware State still coasted to the 11-6 win. Freshman Annalise Santana picked up three base knocks in the game for Delaware State. Senior Mayanah Mclntosh struck out five Saints hitters. The Hornets power output was led by Martin, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame. Martin drove in four runs for Delaware State. Delaware State pitchers faced 36 Siena hitters in the game, allowing three ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out six. Siena was led offensively by senior Ulrich, who went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

The Delaware State Hornets were not able to score a run against Siena pitcher senior Patille on Tuesday and were shut out 1-0 by the Saints.
Senior McKenzie Yurcaba (0-0) started and took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (7-15). The right-hander went 6.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.
Delaware State managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. The Hornets last got a runner on third in the fifth, when senior Sydney Glisson made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs. Delaware State pitchers limited Siena to just 2-for-10 (.200) with runners in scoring position. Siena was led offensively by senior Fletcher, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Patille led the Saints pitching staff, throwing seven scoreless innings.
