BALTIMORE, Md. --The Delaware State Hornets were not able to record a run against Coppin State pitcher senior Vanessa Carrizosa on Thursday and were shut out 9-0 by the Eagles.
Freshman Kristin White (2-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Delaware State (7-12, 1-3).
At the plate, the Hornets were led by sophomore Lester, who went 1-for-2 on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Delaware State did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Hornets went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the first, when Lester made it into scoring position with one out. Coppin State was led offensively by sophomore Seryna Esparza, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Carrizosa led the Eagles pitching staff, throwing five shutout innings.
