Big Games from Robinson and Tavarez Not Enough in Delaware State's 93-81 loss to North Carolina Central

, McDougald --Martaz Robinson scored 27 points and Deywilk Tavarez added 21, but the Delaware State men's basketball team fell to the North Carolina Central Eagles 93-81 on the road Monday.

The Hornets (12-15, 5-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Robinson, who had 27 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Tavarez tacked on 21 points and four assists and Cameron Stitt chipped in as well with 13 points from the bench.

The Delaware State offense was very productive from downtown, pouring in 11 threes on 28 attempts. Stitt was the most prolific shooter for the Hornets, draining three treys in the contest.

How It Happened

After falling behind 25-19, Delaware State went on a 6-0 run with 10:31 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Robinson, to tie the game at 25. North Carolina Central then pulled ahead, sending the Hornets into halftime down 40-38.

North Carolina Central kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 62-47 advantage before Delaware State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Stitt's three, to shrink the deficit to 62-54 with 12:16 to go in the contest. North Carolina Central responded and outscored the Hornets the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 93-81. Delaware State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 43 points. Delaware State lit it up from beyond the arc, knocking down 11 treys in the game.

The Hornets return to home Saturday, March 2 when they host to Norfolk State University on Senior Day in continued MEAC Conference play. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
