ORANGEBURG, South Carolina --Jaden Sutton scored three touchdowns, but Delaware State fell to South Carolina State 69-35 on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 on the year and 1-0 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Hornets fell to 1-7 overall and 0-1 in conference matchups.
Sutton paced the Hornets rushing attack by accumulating 150 yards and three touchdowns over the course of the game, averaging 10 yards per carry. Jayden Jenkins also added 31 yards on the ground, averaging 6.2 yards per carry.
Skyler Jordan pulled in one catch for 71 yards and one score.
Darren Cook led the Delaware State defensive effort, recording one recovered fumble. Kyree Benton added one recovered fumble and Team had in the loss.
The Hornets forced two turnovers in Saturday's contest, with Delaware State turning those takeaways into 14 points.
Defensively, Delaware State held up fairly well against the South Carolina State rushing attack, holding the Bulldogs to 154 yards on the ground. In part because of that stellar defense, Delaware State runners out-gained their South Carolina State counterparts 196-154.

Delaware State responded to a 7-0 lead from South Carolina State with a score to tie the game at 7-7 with 13:31 left in the first quarter.South Carolina State then scored to take a 35-7 lead before the Hornets put a touchdown on the board to narrow the advantage and make it a 35-14 game.
After South Carolina State scored to increase its lead to 62-14, Delaware State responded with a touchdown with 14:54 left in the fourth quarter lead to cut the deficit to 62-21.The Hornets then got on the scoreboard again, narrowing the gap to 62-28.
South Carolina State extended its lead to 69-28 until Delaware State scored again to narrow the gap with 2:34 left in the fourth quarter and make it a 69-35 game. Neither team scored again in the game.

The Hornets will return to the field Saturday, November 2 when they travel to Washington, DC. The Hornets will face Howard University in continued MEAC play. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
