Joe Hodge Named Head Women's Tennis Coach

DOVER - Joe Hodge was named the Head Women's Tennis coach by Athletic Director, Alecia Shields Gadson on Monday, January, 29.  

Joe Hodge joins Delaware State University after serving as the assistant coach at Wilmington University since August 2022.

Joe has a true passion for the mission of the institution as a whole and vision within athletics here at Delaware State University," said Director of Athletics, Alecia Shields Gadson. "We are excited to see his impact on a program that has established itself as one of the best in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and across the country.

Hodge has local Delaware experience, being a tennis professional at Greenville Country Club and the boy's head tennis coach at Wilmington Friends. In his first season at the helm of Wilmington Friends, he brought the team to finish fifth in the State of Delaware, recording the school's best record in the past 12 years. While at Greenville Country Club, he coaches both juniors and adults, teaches lessons, runs groups and clinics, and coaches the women's cup teams.

Hodge also worked with RodneyStreet which builds life through tennis and education. 

RodneyStreet is an inclusive, non-profit organization that provides high-quality tennis and supportive academic resources to Young People in and around Wilmington. Our programs are designed to develop the potential of our participants and have a positive effect on their life trajectories.

Hodge was a tennis coach and music teacher at Tennis Rocks, an after-school and summer grassroots tennis program that helps bring music and tennis to inner-city kids in Wilmington. Staying with music, he is also the Music Director of the Wilmington Orchestra at the Music School of Delaware, earning his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conduction from Michigan State University in 2022. 

He graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in Music in 2009 and earned his Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Hartford in 2012. 

Joe Hodge has begun his USPTA Certification process.
