Dover, Del. (Apr. 5, 2023) --- The Delaware State women's tennis team continued its recent surge with a 6-1 victory over Rider (N.J.) this afternoon. The Hornets have won five of the last six, and eight of their last 10 matches, to improve 8-6-1 overall this spring. Delaware State won five of the six singles matches and claimed the three doubles contests against the Broncs.
Four of the Hornets' singles victory were in straight sets.
Klaudija Lisovska posted the most impressive win with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 match. Lisovska has won four of her last five singles contests, dropping just five games in those wins.
Delaware State's Daria Julia posted her sixth straight singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the No. 3 contest. She is now 9-4 in singles competition this spring, including wins at No. 1 (1-0) and No. 2 (1-0).
Noelani Lui also won in straight sets for the Hornets today with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 2, her fourth win in the last five singles matches.
Kit Yi Kay Au-Yeung posted a 7-5, 6-3 win in the No. 1 contest, while
Baluck Deang bounced back to win 4-6, 6-4, 13-11 in an exciting No. 6 match.
Au-Yeung and Julia teamed up for a 6-3 win in the No. 1 doubles contest, while Deang and Lui also won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.
Lisovska and
Lucia Corte pitched a shutout (6-0) at No. 3 doubles.
