HORNETS POST FIRST MEAC TOURNAMENT WIN IN 11 YEARS WITH SHUT OUT OF SPARTANS

Cary, N.C. (Apr. 27, 2023) --- The Delaware State women's tennis team captured it first MEAC Tournament win since 2012 with a 4-0 victory over Norfolk State in a quarterfinal match at Cary Tennis Park today. The tournament victory was the first for the Hornets since a 4-2 opening round win over Florida A&M on Apr. 13, 2012 in Raleigh, N.C. With today's win, Delaware State, the No. 3 seed, will compete in the MEAC Tournament semifinals since the 2012 season with a match-up against No. 2 North Carolina Central at 9:00 a.m. Friday. N.C. Central posted a 4-0 victory over No. 7 Coppin State to punch its semifinal ticket.
Delaware State won each of its four singles contests in straight sets in today's victory over sixth-seeded Norfolk State. The match was called after the Hornets clinched the victory, with two contests unfinished.
Baluck Deang had the most impressive win for the Hornets today, dropping just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 contest. Kit Yi Kay Au-Yueng (No. 1) and Daria Julia (No. 3) were 6-4, 6-1 winners in their respective matches, while Noelani Lui posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the No. 2 contest.
