BALTIMORE/SALISBURY, Md. --- The Delaware State track & field teams took part in two different meets on Saturday with one group competing at the Morgan State Legacy Meet hosted by Morgan State University while another competed at the Eastern Shore Challenge hosted by Salisbury University on Saturday.
The Hornets increased both the number of athletes who won individual events as well as total number of events won between these two meets as compared to the Gallaudet Bison Classic from two weekends ago.
Tayshaun Chisholm and
Peter Kamanu both claimed their third-straight induvial event wins at the Morgan State Legacy Meet. Chisholm won the 110-Meter Hurdles with a final time of 13.84 seconds while Kamanu claimed first place in the Pole Vault after topping out a height of 4.50 meters.
Devin Smith turned in the fastest time in two different events first with the 800-Meters (1:55.76) and then again in the 1500-Meters (4:03.64). His victory in the 1500-Meters was his second-straight win in the event.
Catherine Glenn won the 100-Meter Hurdles after clocking a time of 13.59 seconds.
Chidubem Okwudibonye claimed her first victory of the season after she placed first in the 400-Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:01.70. Glenn also finished eighth in the High Jump reaching a mark of 1.55 meters.
Annalise Bond went back-to-back in the Pole Vault after reaching a height of 3.35 meters.
Emperor Campbell and
Morey Campbell represented the Hornets at the Eastern Shore Challenge with an individual event win each.
Emperor Campbell won the Discus with a final distance of 48.46 meters while
Morey Campbell won the high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters.
Lakendra Harpe proved to be a utility athlete as she posted three top-eight finishes, two of which came in the short-distance events. She claimed a seventh-place finish in the 200-Meter Dash (24.50 seconds) as well as fourth in the 400-Meter Dash (55.59 seconds) and then took seventh in the High Jump with a mark of 1.55 meters.
Ashley Lagat and Purity Katam both finished third in their respective distance events. Lagat finished the 3000-Meter Steeplechase in 12:22.97 while Katam clocked a time of 20:23.47 in the 5000 Meters.
Both teams that competed in the women's 4 x 100 Meter Relay ranked in top spots. The team of Khaliah White,
Catherine Glenn,
Aaliyah Robinson and
Lakendra Harpe took second (48.64 seconds) while the team of
Cierra Young,
Febe Evans,
Anajisa Robinson and
Leah Powell came in sixth (48.13 seconds).
On the men's side of the Morgan State Legacy Meet,
Nathanael Guy took eighth place in the 800-Meters with a time of 1:55.76
Ezekiel Dawkins finished eighth in the 1500-Meters with a time of 4:22.39.
Jaden Shelton ranked sixth in the 110-Meter Hurdles after clocking a time of 14.64 seocnds while Alonzo Smith Jr. finished in fifth place in the 400-Meter Hurdles with a time of 54.78 seconds.
Hornet Jumpers
Nicholas Newman and
Elijah McLaren held their own in their respective events. Newman landed 6.80 meters in the Long Jump to rank seventh in the finals while McLaren reached 13.74 meters in the Triple Jump to claim sixth.
Both 4 x 100 Meter Relay teams clinched top spots with the team of
Andre Carr, Jr.,
Jaden Shelton,
Malachi Brinkley and
Jalen Booth-Mitchell taking second (40.91 seconds) while the team of
Evan Knox,
Jalen Jasmin,
Nicholas Newman and
Tayshaun Chisholm finished sixth (42.04 seconds).
A group of Hornet throwers and jumpers took part in the Eastern Shore Challenge hosted by Salisbury University and had delivered top results.
Amber Pelle and Orinna Moore recorded top-five finishes in their respective events. Pelle took second in the Hammer Throw (43.17 meters) and fourth in the discus (35.75 meters). Moore placed fifth in the Hammer Throw (36.92 meters) and second in the discus (38.98 meters).
Makiya Gayles ranked fifth in the Javelin with final distance of 17.84 meters.
Trinity Kinard finished second in the High Jump tallying a final mark of 1.50 meters.
Christopher Johnson came in second in the Shot Put with a distance of 14.19 meters while
Emperor Campbell placed sixth in the hammer throw reaching a mark of 40.74 meters.
Delaware State track & field returns to action this coming week at the Penn Relays hosted by University of Pennsylvania.
