DOVER – The Delaware State University equestrian team continued their season with two big wins over Baylor University and UT Martin at the Dovington Training Center, (10-7, 10-7), Friday and Saturday.
The Hornets (3-0, 3-0 NCEA) picked up one Most Outstanding Performer honors against Baylor University. Sophomore Claire Andrews tallied a score of 70, winning MOP in Horsemanship. Senior Victoria Croston was honored in Flat against UT Martin.
Anelia Cortina earned the Horsemanship MOP against UT Martin.
Baylor University:
Delaware State and Baylor were tied 5-5 after Jumping Seat.
The Fences corps dropped 3-2. Maranada McCarthy defeated Emma Covarrubias with a score of 82.
Horsemanship added to the win over Baylor with a 2-1 score, starting with Andrews' 73.5-70.5 MOP victory. Senior Sierra Kane topped Nadalee Vasquez, 70.5-68 for the second win.
Following the break, Flat put together a 3-2 mark vs. Baylor in Jumping Seat action. Megan Pratt dominated with a 65-0 victory. Olivia Brown put together a 77-76 score over Lauren Reid. Maranada McCarthy also defeated her opponent 77-76.
Reining capped the afternoon with another 3-1 win over the Bears. Anna Payne started it off with a 69-65 win over Sadle Peter's. Claire Andrews collected a score of 70, earning them a win over her opponent.
Sophomore Estelle Estus capped the day with a 72-71 win over Kalena Reynolds.
UT Martin:
Delaware State took a 7-3 lead over UT Martin after Jumping Seat.
The Fences corps dropped 3-2. Olivia Brown defeated Kate Mills, 75-73. Maranada McCarthy captured an 80-76 victory over her opponent.
The Hornets and the Skyhawks tied 2-2 in Horsemanship. MOP Aniela Cortina defeated Emma Schaefer 76-75.
Following the break, Flat put together a 5-0 sweep vs. UT Martin in Jumping Seat action. Victoria Croston led the Hornets with a 78-77 victory, earning MOP.
UT Martin defeated the Hornets 2-1 in Reining to finish the afternoon.
The Hornets continue their season as the squad travels to Fort Worth, Texas to compete against Texas Christian University on Jan. 25.
