Box Score Dover, Del. (Sep. 3, 2022) --- Delaware State shut out an opponent for the first time in 15 years, topping Lincoln 34-0 in the season opener for both teams at Alumni Stadium today.
It marked the first time the Hornets pitched a shutout since a 27-0 victory over North Carolina A&T during Delaware State's MEAC championship season in 2007. The Hornets also won their third straight season opener.
Delaware State scored touchdowns on runs by Wade Inge (eight yards), Thomas Bertrand-Hudon (one yard) and reserve quarterback C.J. Henry (17 yards). The scoring run by Henry, a former Hodgson Vo-Tech star, was the first of his career.
The Hornets also scored a touchdown on a 67-yard pass from Jared Lewis to Devin Curry in the third quarter to open up a 17-0 lead.
Freshman placekicker Nathan Wilson nailed two of his three field goal attempts in his season debut for the Hornets.
The Hornets return to action next Saturday (Sep. 10) at the University of Delaware. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Newark.
