Norfolk, Va. (May 14, 2022) --- Malachi Little's first place showing in the 400-meter dash headlined Delaware State's third place team finish in the 2022 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Norfolk State captured the team championship with 192.5 total points to complete a season sweep after winning the MEAC indoor meet last February.
Howard was second with 163.5 team points.
Little earned 10 of the Hornets' 95.5 points with his winning time of 47.05 seconds in the 400, edging out second place Abayie Opuni of Coppin State (47.19 sec.).
Little also ran the anchor leg of the Hornets' second place 4x400 meter relay team. Coppin State won the race with a time of 3-minutes-10.29 seconds. Delaware State was runner-up at 3:11.78. Malcolm Garbutt, Glenn Skinner and Julian Brown ran the first three legs for the Hornets.
Brown also took home a silver medal with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, recording a time of 52.40 seconds. Jordan Williams of Norfolk State posted a time of 51.87 seconds to win the race.
Delaware State's Devin Smith took second place in the 1500-meter run, clocking in at 3-minutes-58.94 seconds, trailing only Regan Kimtai of Norfolk State (3:57.78).
Tyrell Martin also delivered a runner-up performance for the Hornets with a top throw of 15.25 meters in the shot put. Nasir Neal-Watson of Maryland-Eastern Shore won the event at 15.50 meters.
Delaware State's Tayshaun Chisolm was third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.88 seconds, while Albert Norman took third in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 9-minutes-37.44 seconds.  
DSU's Andree Horne was fourth in the Hammer Throw (44.63 meters) and Garbutt fifth in the 800-meter run (1:56.92).  Jalen Jasmin tied for fifth in the long jump at 7.33 meters.
