NORFOLK, VA -- From May 15 to 17, the Delaware State Hornets Track & Field program competed in the annual MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Competition, featuring a plethora of tenacious and hard-working athletes.
The championships were highlighted by stunning performances from Penn Relay High Jump champion Ja'Mari Manson, record-breaking phenom Marian Drazan, and top-10 finishes from the rest of the men's Track & Field program.
Freshman Ja'Mari Manson showcased his jumping ability at the championship, claiming gold with a first-place finish at 2.12m (6'11"). This year, Delaware State Track & Field's Most Valuable Player Marian Drazan dominated the competition with a burst of speed in the Men's 3000 Steeplechase, finishing first with a time of 9:16.61. He was followed by Dyson Cooley, who secured a sixth-place finish with a time of 10:58.75. Drazan continued to contribute to the Hornets' success, earning second place in the Men's 1500m with a time of 3:55.66 and a fourth-place finish in the 5000m at 15:35.40. Johnathan Drew (16:58.58) and Mugo Waweru (17:40.82) also earned top-10 finishes in the Men's 5000m.
Alonzo Sims Jr. secured a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.12. Christopher Johnson closed out the championship for the Hornets with a third-place finish in the Shot Put, recording a final mark of 16.89m.
