NORFOLK, Va. — The Delaware State men's track & field team wrapped up competition at the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with five MEAC titles, multiple podium finishes, and several additions to the program's all-time performance list during the three-day championship meet from May 14-16.
The Hornets were led by another dominant championship performance from Christopher Johnson, who secured his third consecutive MEAC title in the shot put with a throw of 17.23m.
Ja'Mari Manson continued his success in the high jump, capturing his second MEAC title after clearing 2.06m, while Marian Drazan defended his crown in the 3000m steeplechase with a winning time of 8:58.83 to become a two-time conference champion in the event.
On the track, Ian Cain earned his second straight MEAC title in the 800m run after crossing the line in 1:50.87. Alonzo Sims Jr also repeated as MEAC champion in the 400m hurdles, winning the event in 52.28.
Derrick Sirmons placed second in the discus throw with a mark of 46.60m, moving to No. 4 all-time in program history. Drazan added another medal performance with a runner-up finish in the 1500m run after clocking 3:51.02.
Tori Willis Jr finished second in the 400m hurdles in 52.30, while Nanjo Levec delivered a historic performance in the decathlon, placing third overall with a school-record 6,464 points to move to No. 1 all-time at DSU.
Devin James earned bronze in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.48m to move to No. 2 all-time in school history.
Additional top-eight finishes included Messai Maynor placing fifth in the 100m dash in 10.43, moving to No. 6 all-time at DSU, while Anai Burney-Green placed eighth in the 200m dash in 21.15 to move to No. 4 all-time.
The Hornets' 4x100m relay team of Willis Jr., Maynor, Burney-Green, and Amari Burke placed fifth overall in 41.26, moving to No. 6 all-time in program history.
Delaware State also earned points in the 4x400m relay as Sims Jr., Cain, Keith Jenerette, and Sage Phillips finished sixth with a time of 3:12.98.
Additional scoring performances included Donovan Dixon placing fourth in the 400m hurdles, Lekan Sotonwa finishing seventh in the 5000m run, and Levec adding top-10 finishes in both the pole vault and triple jump.
