THE GAMEÂ
Delaware State (0-1; 0-0 MEAC) makes its 2022-23 home debut against
Immaculata (Pa.) at Bayhealth Court in Memorial Hall. The Hornets opened the season with a 95-57 loss to red-hot Virginia Tech of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Nov. 7. The Hokies shot 55 percent from the field, including 50 percent on three-point shots, to highlight their performance. Delaware State was led by guard
Khyrie Staten (so.; Baltimore, Md.) with a career-high 16 points (7-15 FG; 2-6 3pt), while newcomer
Brandon Stone (sr.; Scottsdale, Pa.) added 15 points (7-13 FG; 1-3 3pt) and topped the Hornets with eight rebounds. Virginia Tech won the rebound battle 42-24. Delaware State scored first in the contest when
Jevin Muniz (fr.; Bethlehem, Pa.) knocked down a three-pointer on the team's first shot of the season. Less than a minute later, Delaware State led 6-2 after a three-pointer by Staten. The Hornets held their final lead of the game, 8-5, on a short jumper by Ray Somerville at the 18:17 mark of the first half. The Hornets have 11 new players on the roster, and just four holdovers from the 2021-22 team. Stone and Somerville are among several newcomers with previous college experience, having competed for Robert Morris (Pa.) and Cal State Bakersfield, respectively, before signing to attend Delaware State and compete for the Hornets. Following the Immaculata contest, the Hornets' schedule will get considerably tougher, with two of the next three games on the road against Big East powers Villanova (Nov. 14) and Connecticut (Nov. 20).    Â
