WARRIORS BLOW BY HORNETS IN WEEK FOUR CONTEST

Dover, Del. (Sep. 25, 2021) --- Westin Elliott completed 21 of 23 passes for 336 yards and six touchdowns to led Merrimack to a 47-10 over Delaware State at Alumni Stadium today.
The Warriors won for the third time in four games, while the Hornets dropped their third straight to fall to 1-3 this season.
Pat Conroy was on the receiving end of three Elliott touchdown passes. Overall, Conroy had five catches for 139 yards, including a 75-yard scoring pass on the opening possession of the second half to give Merrimack a 21-10 lead.
The scoring play was part of a 47-point run by the Warriors, who trailed 10-0 before taking control.
Delaware State scored first after taking advantage of a special teams mishap by the visitors in the first quarter.
The Hornets obtained the ball at the Merrimack seven after a bad punt snap by the Warriors.
Merrimack kept DSU out of the end zone on the first three plays after the miscue, forcing the Hornets to settle for a 24-yard field goal by Jake Bridel for the game's first points with 3:21 left in the first quarter.
After Merrimack failed to get a first down on its next possession, the Hornets put together an impressive drive to stretch their lead.
DSU capped off the 12-play, 55-yard drive with a four-yard touchdown pass from Jared Lewis to Trey Gross. Lewis and Thomas Bertrand-Hudon had 12-yard runs, while Lewis also completed an eight-yard pass to Kwannah Kollie on a fourth-and-five play during the five-minute-45-second possession.   
The extra point kick by Bridel gave Delaware State a 10-0 lead with 11:52 left in the second quarter.
Gross has a touchdown catch in each of the last two games, and 18 in his career.
Elliott threw two second quarter touchdown passes to LJ Robinson and Hayden Fisher to give the Warriors a 14-10 lead at the half.
In addition to three scoring strikes to Conroy, Elliott also connected with Maurice Nelson for a second half touchdown.
Delaware State was outgained 423 to 182 in the contest. The Hornets rushed for 138 yards, but were held to a season-low 44 yards passing.
DSU's Sy'veon Wilkerson led all players with 55 yards rushing on 17 carries.
The Hornets return to action next Sat. (Oct. 2) at Wagner.
