Dover, Del. (Apr. 10, 2021) --- The Delaware State women's tennis team were upended by the top team in the MEAC North, Norfolk State, 5-2 on Saturday to snap the Hornets' four-match win streak. The Spartans won five of the six singles matches, although Delaware State captured the doubles point by winning two of the three contests.
Two of Norfolk State's singles wins went to three sets. DSU's
Daria Julia took the first set, 6-2, and was a game away from the win before falling to Laura Ruiz 7-6 and 6-0 in the next two sets in the No. 3 singles match.
Delaware State's
Anastasia Belkina also took game one of her No. 4 contest before dropping the next two. Belkina won the opening set 7-5, but Norfolk State's Zoe Fraser came back to win 6-1 and 7-5 to win the match.
DSU's
Iris Leder won the lone singles match for the Hornets with a strong 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6
The Hornets were more successful in the doubles competition, winning the No. 1 and No. 2 contests.
Delaware State's
Lolita Kozina and Kladdija Lisovska were 6-3 winners in the No. 1 match, while Leder and Julia teamed up for a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 doubles contest.
