HORNETS ANNOUNCE THREE NATIONAL SIGNING DAY FOOTBALL ADDITIONS

Howard High School's Tyair Spencer signs National Letter of Intent to attend Delaware State
Dover, Del. (Feb. 3, 2021) ---  Delaware State head football coach Rod Milstead has announced that three high school seniors have accepted offers to attend the university and compete for the Hornets beginning in the fall 2021 season.
The signees include Howard High School (Del.) star receiver Tyair Spencer, who helped lead the Wildcats to back-to-back state and conference champions the last two years.
A multiple all-state and all-conference honoree, Spencer tallied 77 receptions for more than 1,600 yards and 25 touchdowns in his scholastic career.
"Tyair has all the tools to be an outstanding pass catcher at the college level," said Milstead. "He is a hard worker and winner who comes to us from an outstanding high school program. We're excited to again attract one of the top players in the state to the university and our squad."
Delaware State has also inked Ethan Capone, a two-way standout (TE/DE) from Toms River, N.J. (Donovan Catholic HS). Capone is expected to compete at tight end only for the Hornets.  An all-county and all-division selection, he recorded 27 catches for 263 yards to help lead  Donovan Catholic to a division championship in his junior season. His senior season was also highlighted by county and division championships for the school.
According to Milstead, "Ethan is a good athlete with outstanding route running, pass catching and blocking skills from the tight end position. I feel good about our tight ends heading into this spring and fall seasons,  and the addition of Capone gives a great deal of hope in the years ahead as well."
Darren Cook, a defensive lineman from Washington, D.C. (Friendship Collegiate Academy) has also committed to the Hornets. Cook was credited with 100 tackles, including 17 sacks in three high school seasons. He helped lead Friendship Collegiate to back-to-back District of Columbia championships, earning MVP honors in the title game as a sophomore.
"Darren will give us another big, athletic body along the defensive front," said Milstead. "He has good technique and foot work, and plays with a great deal of intensity."
Milstead stated he expects another top Delaware product to sign with the Hornets this week.

Delaware State has scheduled a five-game spring 2021 football campaign after the fall 2020 season was called off due to the pandemic. The Hornets' spring slate is
scheduled to begin on Feb. 20 at Morgan State. The spring home opener is Mar. 6 against Howard. DSU will also host Morgan State on Mar. 20 and visit Howard on Apr. 3 before welcoming the University of Delaware to Alumni Stadium for the first time on Apr. 10.
