The Game
Delaware State (9-11; 5-2 MEAC) begins a two-game road trip with a visit to MEAC co-leader Norfolk State. DSU is currently fifth in the MEAC standings, but only one game behind the league leaders in the loss column. The Lady Hornets have won two straight and three of their four games, including a 72-58 wire-to-wire victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore in their most recent outing on Feb. 3. Playing without leading scorer Sharajah Collins (injury), DSU jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back in the contest. Lyric Turner (jr.) led three double-figure scorers for the Lady Hornets in the MDES contest with 20 points, highlighted by three three-point field goals. Lanayjha (sr.) added 19 points, while Janasia Law (jr.) had her best game and first "double-double" as a Lady Hornet, scoring 12 points (5-7 FG; 2-2 3pt. FG) and topping all players with 12 rebounds. Collins (jr.) is DSU's leading scorer this season, averaging 13.1 points per game to rank sixth in the MEAC. A two-time MEAC Co-Player of the Week, Collins is also among the league leaders in field goal percentage, assists, free throw percentage,Ā Ā  steals, three-point FG Pct. and minutes played. Lyric Turner (jr.) is second on the Lady Hornets and tied forĀ  13th in the league in scoring at 12.1 points per game. Turner is also the No. 1 free throw shooter in the MEAC at 85.7% (42-for-49) and tied for third in the league in three-point field goals at 2.3 per game (45 total).Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā

Norfolk State (13–8; 7-1Ā  MEAC), currently tied with Bethune-Cookman for first place in the MEAC standings, is coming off an 83-75 victory at North Carolina Central last Monday, its seventh win in the last eight games. Le'Deja James was high scorer for the Lady Spartans with a career-high 36 points in the game, hitting 12-of-18 shots from the field, including four-of-six on three-point shots, and eight of 10 at the free throw line. Blaire Thomas added 18 points for the Spartans vs. NC Central. NSU's Chanette Hicks leads the MEAC in scoring at 21.2 points per game, while James is eighth at 13.0.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā

DSU vs NSU Series History (DSU leads 24-21)
This will be the first of two meetings between the teams this season. The Hornets and Spartans split two contests last season, with each team winning on its home court. Norfolk State won the first 2018-19 contestĀ  63-50 at Echols Hall. The Lady Hornets hit just 18-of-60 shots in the game (30.0%), including only six-of-27 (22.2%) in the first half. Delaware State avenged the loss with a 59-56 victory in the rematch at DSU. The Lady Hornets trailed 48-43 with less than six minutes to play, but outscored the Spartans 16-8 the rest of the way. Lanayjhe Ashe was tops among returning DSU players with 17 points, highlighted by three three-pointers in the second 2018-19 meeting. The Hornets and Spartans are also scheduled to meet again on Mar. 2 in Dover, Del.
