The Game
Delaware State (6-10; 2-1 MEAC) returns from a 12-day break with a two-game MEAC swing through North Carolina. The trip begins with a visit to North Carolina Central. The Lady Hornets have been idle since a 69-45 loss to North Carolina A&T on Jan. 13. The loss prevented DSU from its first a 3-0 MEAC start since the 2009-10 season. Delaware State is tied for fourth in the MEAC standings heading into this weekend's competition. The Lady Hornets were plagued by poor shooting in the NCA&T contest, connecting on just 15-of-65 shots from the field (23.1%), including two three-pointers in 25 attempts (8.3%).
Janasia Law (jr.) was the only Lady Hornet to reach double-figures in scoring in the game with 10 points. She also led the team with eight rebounds in the contest. For the season,
Sharajah Collins (jr.) is DSU's leading scorer and ninth in the MEAC with a 12.9 point per-game average. A two-time MEAC Co-Player of the Week, Collins is also among the league leaders in field goal percentage (15th @.410), assists (T-15th @ 2.3 pg), free throw percentage (sixth @ .708), steals (ninth @ 1.7 pg) and minutes played (ninth @ 30.9 pg).
Lyric Turner (jr.) is second on the Lady Hornets and right behind Collins at 10th in the MEAC in scoring at 12.4 points per game. Turner has also emerged as one of the league's top three-point shooters. She's currently tied for third among all MEAC players in three-pointers at 2.4 per game (38 total). Turner had a team season-high six threes vs. William & Mary and knocked down four triples in three other contests.     Â
North Carolina Central (5-13; 2-3 MEAC) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 71-70 overtime victory at Florida A&M on Monday. Zaria Atkins scored the winning points on an old fashioned three-point play with less than five seconds left in overtime. The Eagles trailed 70-68 before the play. Atkins led four NCCU double-figure scorers with 16 points in the game. For the season, Paulina Afriyie is tops on the Lady Eagles and third in the MEAC in scoring at 13.7 point per game. She's also the MEAC's third best rebounder at 8.1 per game.     Â
DSU vs NCCU Series History (NCCU leads 7-6)
