HORNETS FALL TO GREYHOUNDS IN OT THRILLER

Dover, Del. (Sep. 24, 2019) --- Hannah Hoefs scored the winning goal in overtime (98th minute) to lift Loyola (Md.) to a 2-1 victory over Delaware State at Alumni Stadium Tuesday afternoon. The Greyhounds won for the third time in four matches to improve 3-5, while the Hornets fell to 0-10 this season.

Hoefs tallied the winning goal on a free kick from 19 yards away following a hand penalty on Delaware State.

The match was scoreless until Loyola drew first blood on a goal by Ariel Tillman less than two minutes into the second half (47th minute).

Delaware State evened the match on a goal by Mary O'Conner in the 54th minute. The goal, on a penalty kick, was the team-best second of the season for O'Conner.

The Hornets were inches from winning the match in regulation when a free kick by O'Conner from 50 yards away hit the crossbar above the out stretched arms of Loyola goal keeper Paige Sim.

The loss overshadowed a stellar performance by Delaware State goal keeper Fabrea McCray, who recorded eight saves, including six in the second period.

Loyola out shot the Hornets 16-2 in the contest.

Delaware State is also home for its next two matches, beginning with a visit by Stony Brook this Sunday
(Sep. 29) at 1:00.
