HORNETS BLANKED BY VMI IN HOME OPENER

Dover, Del. (Aug. 29, 2019) ---VMI scored three goals in a 13 minute span to highlight a 4-0 women's soccer victory over Delaware State in the Hornets' 2019 home opener at Alumni Stadium this afternoon.

The Keydets bounced back from a season- opening loss to loss to even its record, while DSU is winless in three matches this season.

The contest was scoreless until just before the half when VMI recorded its first goal. Maggie Beckman did the scoring honors off a feed from Kiley Cropper with a-minute-nine seconds to go before the break.

The Keydets opened up a 2-0 lead when Whitney Edwards-Roberson scored on a chip shot after outplaying Delaware goal keeper Franchesska Ramirez for the ball in the 54th minute.

Cropper scored a goal of her own on a pass from Sam Fee at the 57th minute and Maria Vargas beat Ramirez in the 74th minute to round out the scoring for the Keydets.

Delaware State was outshot `in the contest. Ramirez recorded eight saves for the Hornets.

DSU returns to action on Sunday against Marist. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
