HORNETS SCORE LATE FOR EXHIBITION TIE

Dover, Del. (Aug. 16, 2019) --- Delaware State's Gabriela Cabrera scored with 31 seconds left to play in the Hornets' 2-2 tie vs. Mount St. Mary's in a women's soccer exhibition at Alumni Stadium this evening.

DSU trailed 2-1 when Cabrera scored from close range off a from Lyentte Urena to even the score.

The Hornets struck first in the contest when freshman Kiarah Jones scored for the fourth time in two exhibition matches in the opening period.

Mount St. Mary's scored in the first and second periods to grab the lead.

“I'm pleased that we fought to the very end to get the tie,” said Delaware State head coach Kourtney Rhoades. “We have some things to clean up, but overall we're well ahead of where we were at this time last year and when camp began.”

The Hornets will kick off the 2019 regular season on the road at St. Peter's (N.J.) next Friday (Aug. 23). DSU's home opener is Aug. 29 against VMI.
