HORNETS DROP TWIN-BILL TO DRAGONS

Dover, Del. (Apr. 16, 2019) --- Drexel combined for 30 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Delaware State this afternoon. The Dragons collected 13 hits in an 11-1 victory in the opener and tallied 17 base knocks to highlight their 9-3 win in the nightcap.

Drexel's Kristi DiMeo and Hannah Walker each had two hits and three runs batted in game one.

The Dragons opened the scoring with six runs in the top of the second inning off DSU starter Brianna Baker. DiMeo and Linda Rush each had two-run doubles, while Walker singled in a run in the inning.

The Hornets scored their lone run in the third. Carissa Thorne singled with one out and advanced to third on a double by Jasmine Melgoza.  Thorne crossed the plate on a ground out by Jonah Cunnigan to cut the Dragons lead to 6-1.

Drexel blew the game open with five runs in the fourth inning. DiMeo drove in her third run of the game on a one-out triple, while Walker doubled in two fifth inning runs.

The game ended after Delaware State batted in the fifth due to the eight-run rule.

Meghan Conroy (3-2) pitched a complete game to earn the win for the Dragons.

Rush had two hits and three RBI, while Walker, Reilly Swanson and Megan Trivelpiece contributed three hits each to lead Drexel in the nightcap.

The Dragons led 6-0 after three innings. Rush singled in two runs in the second inning and Jenelle Ladrido had a two-run triple in the third.

Delaware State trailed 7-0 before scoring three in the sixth inning. Jade King drove in the first two runs on a one-out double, while Jordan Casey tripled in the third run of the inning.

The Hornets return to action with a three-game MEAC series at home against Norfolk State this weekend. The Hornets and Spartans will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1 p.m. and close out the series with a single game on Saturday at noon.
