Hornets Sweep Bears on Day One of Series

GAME 1

DOVER, DE --
Kristin White was dealing on Friday, hurling a four-hit shutout to lead the Delaware State Hornets past the Morgan State Bears 4-0.

White went the distance for Delaware State (11-16, 4-6), giving up four hits, walking six, and striking out nine.

In the batter's box, the Hornets were paced by Mianna Lopez Del Haro, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a home run, a walk, and an RBI. Allyson Fonollosa put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Zaelyn Harding also contributed for Delaware State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Destiny Mitchell came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board.

The Hornets then tacked on runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored one time. That run came across on Lopez Del Haro's leadoff home run off Serena Rodri.

GAME 2

DOVER, DE — The Delaware State Hornets used a strong offensive showing and timely hitting to defeat the Morgan State Bears 8-2 on Friday afternoon.

The Hornets were powered by a balanced attack at the plate, finishing with 13 hits in the contest while capitalizing on key scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Destiny Mitchell sparked the offense early, ripping a double and coming around to score to help the Hornets get on the board in the opening inning.

Karly Cain delivered in a big moment, driving in a run on a sacrifice fly to bring Mitchell home and give Delaware State an early advantage.

The Hornets continued to get production throughout the lineup, with Kaylanie Rodriguez and Nevaeh Terrell each recording hits to keep innings alive and apply pressure on Morgan State's defense.

In addition, Mianna Lopez Del Haro contributed offensively as part of a lineup that consistently put the ball in play and forced the Bears into tough situations.


HOW IT HAPPENED

Delaware State wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. Mitchell led things off with a double and later scored on Cain's sacrifice fly to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.

After Morgan State answered with runs in the third and fourth innings, the Hornets responded in a big way, stringing together hits and taking advantage of scoring chances to pull away.

Delaware State's offense continued to build momentum as the game progressed, ultimately breaking things open with a multi-run effort that put the game out of reach.
