Lynchburg, Va. (Feb. 24, 2019) --- The Delaware State softball team completed the rain-shortened Liberty Challenge with losses to Wright State and Bucknell on Sunday. The Hornets fell to Wright State 4-2 before closing out the tourney with an 11-4 loss to Bucknell.
DSU was winless in four tournament games to fall to 1-5 this season.
In the Wright State contest, Delaware State opened the scoring with two runs on errors in the third inning. The Raiders scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game.
Wright State won the game on a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.
The Hornets also led early in the Bucknell contest, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Jordan Casey scored the first run on a stolen base and throwing error, while Jasmine Melgoza scored the Hornets' second run on a Bucknell miscue.
DSU led 2-1 before the Bison exploded for six runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead.
The Hornets scored two in the fifth on run scoring triples by Melgoza and Jonah Cunningan to pull to within 7-4, but Bucknell answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth and three in the sixth to seal the win.
Melgoza was three-for-four in the Bucknell contest.
