GAELS RIDE EARLY SCORES TO WIN OVER HORNETS

Dover, Del. (Oct. 2, 2019) --- Iona scored its goals in the first 14 minutes to defeat Delaware State 2-0 at Alumni Stadium this afternoon.

The Gaels won for the second time in their last four contests to improve to 3-7-2 this season, while the Hornets fell to 0-12.

Iona's Sofia Giamanco scored the first goal of the match on a header from close range off a cross by Samantha Hogan from the far right corner in the 10th minute.

A little more than three minutes later, Faith Preziosi fired a shot past Delaware State goal keeper Fabrea McCray from 20 yards away after fielding a long pass from MacKenzie Meixner to give the Gaels a 2-0 lead.

Delaware State was outshot 9-3 in the contest. Alyssa Coustenis had two shots on goal for the Hornets.

DSU returns to action this Sunday (Oct. 6) at South Carolina State. The match is set for 1:00 p.m. in Orangeburg, S.C.
