DSU WOMEN FIFTH IN HBCU BATTLE

New York, N.Y. (Jan. 13, 2019) --- Amber Conyers was third in the triple jump and the 4x200 meter relay team  also took  third place to highlight Delaware State's performance in the HBCU Battle women's indoor track and field competition at the New York Armory  this weekend.

The Hornets were fifth in the 12-team event with 38 points. Hampton won the team standings with 149 points. Howard was second (133), followed by Morgan State (130.5) and Coppin State (42).

Conyers had a top leap of 11.22 meters (36'9.75”) to earn six points for her third place triple jump performance.

DSU's  800-meter relay team of Nissa Martinez-Smith, Lakendra Harpe, T'Keyah Macklin and Ahnrea McCaskell also collected six points after posting a time of one-minute-44-seconds to finish third in the race.

The Hornets also had two fourth place finishes, awarding five points each.

Martinez-Smith was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.97 seconds, while Katarzyna Rosikon posted a time of 11-minutes-46.29-seconds to finish fourth in the 3000 meter run.

DSU's Precious Igwebulke and Conyers were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the long jump. Igwebulke had a top leap of 5.29 meters to earn four points, while Conyers' collected four points with a best effort was 5.25 meters.
