HORNETS STUNG BY SLOW START IN LOSS TO LEOPARDS

Easton, Pa. (Aug. 19, 2018) --- Lafayette scored a goal less than a minute into the match and never looked back in a 5-1 women's soccer victory over Delaware State this afternoon.  Alex Stanford scored three goals to lead the Leopards in the contest.

Delaware State (0-2) notched its first goal of the season in the second period, but was outscored 3-1 in the final 45 minutes.


Lafayette (2-0) struck quickly in the contest. Just 57 seconds into the match, Stanford scored from close range off passes from Sophia Hudson and Katie Brannigan to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead.


Lafayette took a 2-0 lead when Stanford scored again, firing a shot past DSU goal keeper Leslie Fazio off feeds from Hudson and Annika Sheehan, in the 20thn minute.


Stanford tallied her third goal of the match in the 58th minute to give the Leopards a 4-0 lead.


Moments later, Delaware State scored its first goal of the season on a shot by Jade Jamison, playing in her second match with the Hornets.  It also marked Jamison's first collegiate goal. She recorded one point on an assist in two seasons at Army before joining the Hornets.


Lafayette closed out the scoring with a goal in the 85th minute.


Delaware State is also on the road for its next match on Thurs. (Aug. 23) at VMI. The contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Lexington, Va. 
The Hornets return home next Sunday (Aug. 26) for a 2 p.m. match against Temple.
