(Baltimore, Md.) – Playing in front of a light crowd due to heavy snow fall, the Delaware State women's basketball team (5-24, 2-14 MEAC) concluded its 2014-15 regular season campaign with a 79-51 road loss to the Coppin State Eagles (6-21, 5-11 MEAC) Thursday evening.
With this defeat, the Lady Hornets dropped their eighth in a row, including their fifth consecutive to CSU, while the Eagles snapped a three-game skid. Â
Conditions outside were not the only thing cold in the first half, as DSU went just 11-for-29 (.379) from the field, including a 1-for-8 (.125) output from long distance. As a result, the Eagles led by as many as 18 on their way to a 38-23 advantage at the break, behind forward Janelle Lane's 11 points (4-of-4).
The second stanza, meanwhile, featured Delaware State failing to get within 15, whereas CSU's Bria Harris (18 points – 10 rebounds) and Amber Griffin (12 points – 11 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles at game's end. Griffin also added a game-high seven assists and three steals to her night.Â
For DSU, forward Amber Bogard poured in a game-high 19 points (8-of-15) and three blocks off the bench, while fellow frontcourt mate Tierra Hawkins tallied her 12th double-double of the season with 11 points (5-of-11) and a team-high 10 boards.
Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will head to Norfolk, Va. for the MEAC Tournament (March 9 – 14). Coming into tonight's game holding down the 13th spot in the conference standings, DSU would face Norfolk State in the opening round if the tournament started today. Â
