CROMWELL, Conn. - A new leader
emerged Monday for the Delaware State University women's golf team as freshman Brooke Foster (Prior Lake, Minn.) is
tied for fifth place and two shots behind first place after the day one of the
Quinnipiac Classic, held at the TPC River Highlands, a PGA-ranked course.
Foster
recorded a season-best 18-hole scorecard of 81 on the par-70, 5,873-yard Pete
Dye-designed course. She posted a birdie
on hole 12 with a mark of three.
As
a team, the Hornets shot a 345 to hold at +65 through the first round. DSU sits in fourth place at 15 shots behind
leading Merrimack, who sits at a +50 score of 330. Host Quinnipiac is in second at +52 while
Fairfield is third at +61. Behind DSU is
Wagner at +65 in fifth place and St. Francis (N.Y.) in sixth at +93.
Freshman
Marie-France Finn (Memramcook, New
Brunswick, Canada) finished her 18-hole round tied for 12th place
with a +15 score of 85. She recorded a
birdie shot of three on hole 14.
Fellow
freshman Mengxuan 'Rebecca' Gai
(Guangzhou, China) shot a +18 card of 88 to sit in 16th place
through the first round. Gai opened her
day with a birdie on the second hole.
Rounding
out the scores for the Hornets is freshman Ellisa
Lee (Ellicott City, Md.), who tied for 20th place with a score
of +21.
Merrimack's
Ali Reed, Quinnipiac's Krissy Unger and Wagner's Kathryn Jimerson finished the
day tied for first place with a +9 score of 79.

Quinnipiac Classic wraps up Tuesday at The Farms Country Club in Wallingford,
