DOVER, Del. - The Fordham University
soccer team came out of the gates raring to go and it was too much for Delaware
State University to handle as the Hornets fell, 3-1, to the Rams Sunday
afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
Junior
Randall Marshall (Laurel, Md.)
scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute to cut
Fordham's lead to 2-1. Marshall got the
ball about five yards out in the middle of the goal and shot it in past Ram
goalie Rachel Suther.
Fordham
scored first in the ninth minute of the game with a goal from junior Annie
Worden. Freshman Kristina Maksuti found
Worden in the middle of the field, who then shot the ball from 25 yards out.
Maksuti
scored her first career goal and the second for the Rams in the 47th
minute while junior Kaitlin Abrams scored in the 69th minute to give
Fordham a 3-1 lead.
Things
got dicey in the 61st minute as DSU freshman Lauren Price (Bayside, N.Y.) got tangled with Maksuti. Both players, in addition to Hornet junior Jeanette Salgado (Bergenfield, N.J.)
and Ram junior Cara Rooney, received red cards on the play.
Freshman
Katelyn Koslosky (East Islip, N.Y.)
had another stellar game for DSU as she collected a career-high nine saves on
the afternoon.
The
Hornets got off a total of eight shots in the game. Seven of those came in the second half.
The
loss is the fifth of the season for DSU, who move to 0-5-1 on the season while
the Rams improve to 2-2-1.
The
Hornets continue a four-game homestand next Friday as they host Lincoln (Pa.)
at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
